Chavutti Thirumal is one of Kerala’s most distinctive traditional massage techniques.
The word literally refers to massage performed using the feet. Unlike conventional hand massage, the practitioner uses controlled foot movements to create long, flowing strokes across the body. The practitioner maintains balance using a suspended rope while carefully controlling pressure and movement. Traditionally performed with warm herbal oils, Chavutti Thirumal allows the practitioner to work across large areas of the body with smooth, continuous movements. The treatment is performed on a padded floor with the recipient positioned comfortably to support the traditional techniques.
